Allen Rodgers
Atlanta artist Allen Rodgers started painting in 1973 while living in New Orleans. The charm of the city provided ample inspiration for both his portraits and landscapes. A later move to Savannah provided an opportunity to study privately with Augusta Oelschig who helped him with portraits and learning more about color.
In 1977 Allen moved to Atlanta, which brought both inspiration and new opportunities. In 1982 he completed 28 original paintings for the Penrod’s restaurant. This caught the eye of the Atlanta Braves organization and landed him a commission to paint a portrait of manager Joe Torre for the cover of the media guide.
In 1995 a life changing decision was made. Allen decided to leave the corporate job and embark on a full time painting career. He co-owned a gallery in Buford, GA for six years and has never regretted his decision. His paintings are in both public and private collections throughout the United States. He has been teaching painting classes for the past 12 years and is currently teaching one class a week in the Decatur/Avondale Estates area.
